The Garden of Edith

by Kathleen Niemann Usher

How did you use your time in the Midwives?

I used it to help me edit my solo show and mold it into something I am very proud of.

What is a discovery you made about yourself or your process?

I learned that editing can be fun. Make a copy of your script and just go ham on the craziest things you can think of and see what comes of it.

Can you describe your piece / process for us?

The Garden of Edith is a documentary-theater solo show that explores our connections with the earth, the food we eat, and our communities. The show is split into four parts representing the four seasons (this five minute snippet happens at the end of spring). Through dance I demonstrate the repetitive work it takes to maintain a farm, while the voice over of a seed farmer I interviewed plays in the background.
